Mary ‘Kay’ Penrose
Mary Karen ‘Kay’ Penrose, age 75, of 320 Cherry St., died on Friday, September 7, 2018 in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born on August 28, 1943 in Quincy, IL the daughter of Carl & Mary (Hickey) Hamann.
Kay attended Quincy Notre Dame High School and graduated in 1962. She worked as an activity aide at the Illinois Veterans Home for 31 years and retired in 2003.
Kay was a devoted Catholic and actively involved in many prayer groups. She truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures such as church, activities in the community and volunteering for meals on wheels. Some of her favorite times out would be visiting with friends, family and extended family near and far. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She truly cared for God’s creations through planting flowers and spending time in her yard. She loved taking long rides on country roads and admiring the scenery. She will be deeply missed by all.
She is survived by:
TWO SONS: Brad Penrose and his wife Amy of Quincy and Darrick Penrose.
FIVE GRANDCHILDREN: Shelby Job and her husband Dallas; Autumn Penrose, Jordan Penrose, Haley Penrose and Hannah Penrose.
FOUR GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Jaxson, Leightyn, Meilah and Dallas, Jr.
THREE SIBLINGS: Ron Hamann and his wife Rose; Rick Hamman and his wife Maggie and Kathy Calhoun.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Michael Hamann.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018 at 9:30 am in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at Duker & Haugh with a prayer service by Rev. Arnaud Devillers to be held at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to The Local Toys for Tots Program. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Kay was a very near neighbor of mine growing up and also a dear Facebook friend. My condolences to the Haman Family…may she Rest In the Peace of the Lord.

Sorry to hear of Kay’s passing she was a very sweet lady and will be missed. When she worked at Deters dairy on 12 th @ Broadway when I was in High school ID stop there and pick up a few. Notre Dame girls and give the a ride home she would make me a pineapple shake at least A couple or three times a week. When I would walk through that door she would say Pineapple shake today. She knew my favorite. Any time I would see her out we would take for a while, and I too will miss her. Prayers coming your way for the Family.
I grew up down the road from Kay . She was always a happy and friendly person. I have many fond memories of her. Very sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry for your loss. I always enjoyed seeing Kay, laughs were always in order. I knew her for over 50 years and never saw her without a smile.
We were so sorry to hear of Kay’s passing. She recently very generously shared her hen and chicks with us and they are thriving. They will be a lovely reminder of this sweet and lovely lady. Prayers for comfort and peace for all of you.

Condolences to the family. Remembered Kay from grade school and reconnected a few years ago on FB. She loved the Lord and enjoyed hearing from her many, many friends on FB. Will miss all her enlightening posts. Such a sweet lady.
Dear Penrose and Hamman families,
Mary Kay was a sweetheart like her dear mother Mary, I have known the whole family at lease 55 years. and attending St, Rose school with her siblings. She oved the Latin Mass and St. Rose too.
It seemed like I just spoke to her too, but its been over a month I saw her at mass.
Please know that I will remember her in my daily rosary like her mom and dad and Michael too.
This will be the first funeral I cant be at St. Rose in 10 years since we reopened. But I will have a mass said for her soul.
Thank you for sharing her with us all these years too.

Kay was a guest in my home in late July for a cousins reunion. We shared some great memories about the our grandfathers being brothers. She touched our lives in so many ways and will be missed
