Mary Jane Thuersam

Mary Jane Thuersam, age 87, of 1506 S. 15th Street, Quincy, formerly of 669 Christiana Street, N. Tonawanda, N.Y., died on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 2:40 p.m. in her home. She was born on June 1, 1921 in North Tonawanda, N.Y., the daughter of Herman and Amanda (Salow) Kuglin. She married Kennard Thuersam on June 29, 1947 in North Tonawanda. In 1978, Kennard and Mary Jane retired in Lake City, S.C. where they lived for ten years before moving to Sebring, FL. Kennard preceded her in death on August 1, 2005 and later that year Mary Jane moved to Quincy.

Mary Jane was a member of Payne Avenue Christian Church in North Tonawanda and the Sebring Christian Church in Florida. She was a graduate of Millard Fillmore Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse for Dr. Doll and also for the North Tonawanda Public Schools. During World War II she thoroughly enjoyed living in New York City where her father was stationed. There she was a nurse for Dr. Silver.

Mary Jane was a member of Sebring Garden Club, and White Shrine of Jerusalem. She loved her plants and gardening.
Survivors include:
TWO DAUGHTERS: Judy Heilmann and her husband Ray of Quincy, and Barb Chiappetta and her husband Dan of Plantation, FL;
GRANDCHILDREN: Stuart Schelp of St. Louis, MO, Sarah Ludlum and her husband Ryan of Quincy, Colette Rakers and her husband Jason of Aviston, IL, Heath Heilmann and his wife Shannon of Sioux City, IA, Peter Hund and his wife Sandy; and Mark Hund all of Plantation, FL;
NINE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother in infancy.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. Judith Taylor. There is no visitation but friends are invited to the memorial service. Memorials are suggested to Quincy Notre Dame High School or St. Peter Grade School. Funeral arrangements are with the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
