Mary Jane O’Brien Taylor

Mary Jane O’Brien Taylor age 88, of 2130 Harrison, formerly of 2700 South 31st Street died on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at 2:50 a.m. in Good Samaritan Home. Mary Jane was born June 4, 1924 in Canton, IL, a daughter of Clifford and Mary E. (Bown) O’Brien. Mary Jane married John Vincent Taylor on October 20, 1945 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Canton, IL. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2006.

Mary Jane was a homemaker and had worked as a C.N.A. at the former St. Mary Hospital, where she also was a volunteer with the Gray Ladies. She was a graduate of Canton, IL High School.

Mary Jane was a member of the Church of St. Peter. Her favorite things included dogs, cats, birds, flowers, eating Oreo cookies and going to auctions.

Survivors include three sons and three daughters, Brien and his wife Lynn of Round Rock, TX; Richard and his wife Celeste of Quincy; John and his wife Dawn of Moline, IL and daughters, Nina Taylor and William Loos of Liberty, IL; Regina Chapman and her husband Ricky of Quincy; Monica Ryan and her husband Tom of Bozeman, MT.

Special grandchildren Michael Taylor of Las Vegas, NV; Steven Taylor of Chicago, IL; Tiffany Jones and her husband Jay; James Fenton, Jr. and his wife Jessica; Lee Fenton all of Quincy; Kasey Taylor of Milwaukee, WI; Forrest Cripe of Chicago; Westley Cripe of West Virginia; Andrew Chapman and his wife Traci of St. Louis, MO; Katherine Pray and her husband Kreagen; Kelsey Wiemelt all of Quincy; Stella, Mary and John Ryan all of Bozeman, MT;
Great Grandchildren, Zayne Feely, Connor, Aiyana, Ainsley and Hadley Fenton, Jackson Pray, and Violet Wiemelt all of Quincy and Lila Chapman of St. Louis, Mo.
Sisters-in-law Ermina O’Brien of Sacramento, CA; and Jacqueline O’Brien of Canton, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Clifford and John O’Brien and a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline (Loos) Taylor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter by Monsignor Leo Enlow. Interment will be Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in St. Joseph Cemetery in Canton, IL. Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter. Memorials are suggested to the Quincy Humane Society, the Quincy Branch of the Alzheimer’s Association or Blessing Foundation for HOSPICE. Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    I worked with your Mom years ago at St. Mary’s. I remember her as a hard worker with a unique sense of humor. She was always fun to be around. I am sorry for your loss.
