Mary Isabelle Bockenfeld

Mary Isabelle Bockenfeld age 88, of 624 North 5th St., died on Saturday, March
17, 2012 in Blessing Hospital. Mary was born May 7, 1923 in LaBelle, MO a daughter of John H. and Sarah I. (Ferguson) Slade. She married Henry A. Bockenfeld on April 12, 1951in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death June 4, 1981.

Mary was a homemaker, and a seamstress who worked for Pierson Manufacturing and Ely Walker from 1941-1952. She also was a union representative for the International Ladies Garment Workers Union.

She was formerly a member of All Saints Catholic Church and a present member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was a member of the Leisure Club at All Saints and active there as a volunteer. Mary was part of the Quilter’s Group at All Saints, and participated in the WCU project making quilts for babies born with AIDS. She used her sewing talents in a generous way, and took care of sewing needed at the church and she made Baptismal gowns and scapulars. Sewing, quilting and reading were her beloved hobbies.

Survivors include sisters, Hazel L. Twaddle of Quincy; Sarah M. “Peggy” Boyd of Wichita, KS; a brother, John H. Slade of Quincy; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother William A. Slade; a sister, Patricia Carol Slade in infancy; a step-son Kenneth E. Bockenfeld.

A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 9:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Msgr. Michael Kuse. Interment will be in St. Boniface Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a prayer service at 5:30. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or to the Ladies of Charity.
