Mary Christine Ahern

Mary Christine Ahern, age 93, of St. Vincent’s Home, formerly of 1628 Spruce, Quincy, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 10, 2010 from Blessing Hospital. Mary was born on October 13, 1916 in Edina, MO the daughter of Anthony Francis and Mary Gabriel (Gangloff) Hunolt. Mary came to Quincy from Edina, MO in 1925, staying at the St. Aloysius Orphanage and was raised by Agnes Durk, her maternal Aunt. She married Wells Stephen Ahern on February 20, 1941 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He preceeded her in death on May 4, 1950.

Mary was a seamstress for the Three Sister’s Ready To Wear in 1938. She became a homemaker after getting married. She attended St. Jospeh Catholic School in Edina, MO, St. Francis Grade School in Quincy, and Notre Dame.

Mary was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and later St. Boniface Catholic Church.

Mary is survived by:
THREE CHILDREN: Mary E. Leckbee of Jacksonville, IL, Matthew Joseph Ahern of Tampa, Florida
and Maureen E. Leckbee of Maywood, MO.
THREE GRANDCHILDREN: Paul Leckbee, Alan Leckbee and Dawn Leckbee.
A SISTER: Helen Knowles.
Many nieces including Sheron Sherwood, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, Mary was also preceeded in death by her parents and twin sons Michael & Mark Ahern, a daughter Martha E. Leckbee, a brother Robert Hunolt and a sister Martha McNutt.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 9:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 9:30 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Vistation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6:30. Memorials are suggested to the Skilled Nursing Unit at Blessing Hospital.

    Her sister Helen’s name last name was Knoles. Her brother in law was Claude Knoles.
    Mary is my great aunt and I am sorry I never was able to meet her.
