Mary Catherine Brahler
Mary Catherine Brahler, 85, of Quincy, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 in her home.
She was born June 12, 1937, in Mt. Sterling, a daughter of Lawrence Thomas Franklin and Anna Rose Franklin (nee Ducey). Mary married Richard William “Bill” Brahler on April 8, 1961, in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Springfield. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2005.
Mrs. Brahler was a housewife and homemaker and a true partner to her husband Bill. She was a graduate of St Mary’s in Mt Sterling and St. John’s School of Nursing in Springfield. She worked as a registered nurse at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Mary was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a member of the Social Concerns Committee of the church. She was a devoted member of the Adoration Chapel. She was an active member of Homebound Communion Ministry as well as Blessing Hospital Communion Ministry. She was a member of the Choir and loved singing at her beloved St. Peter Catholic Church. She also participated in the Cursillo movement.
She was a member of Quincy Country Club. For many years she enjoyed golf with her friends and husband. She loved working in her yard, tending to her flowers, and especially fond of her vegetable garden. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially all of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her five children, Kathleen M. Wardlow and her husband, Steven of Arlington TX, Richard W. Brahler II and his wife Deanna of Naples FL, Laura A. Sandoval of Austin TX, Matthew D. Brahler of Granite City, and Suzanne L. Kurk and her husband, Michael of Quincy; and a dear sister, Margret A. Jones, and her husband Jack of White Bear Lake MN. Nine Grandchildren also survive, Anna Gabriella Behymer and her husband Cameron, Richard W. Brahler III, Daniel Kurk Brahler, Isabel Rose Brahler, Alyssa Ann Brahler, Madeline Rae Brahler, Sadie Catherine Kurk and her fiancé Tyler Betts, Hattie Jane Kurk, and Ada Mae Kurk.
In addition to her husband Bill Brahler, Mary was also preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Thomas Franklin and Anna Rose Franklin, and one brother Rev. Dr. John Franklin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at St. Peter Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or School and Quincy Notre Dame High School. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
