Mary Ann Middendorf
Mary Ann Middendorf, 82, Quincy, IL, died on August 18, 2016, in her home. She was born August 2, 1934, in Quincy, Illinois, a daughter of Kenneth and Mary Louise Awerkamp Amen. She married Richard Middendorf on September 29, 1956. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2000.
Mary Ann was a lifelong music teacher and was involved in many other organizations and activities related largely around music. She graduated in 1956 from Quincy College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in music education. She was passionate about her devotion to her faith and her church and remained very involved at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church (formerly St. Mary’s) where she had taught Sunday school, helped to organize and later direct the Church Choir and assisted with many of the ministries of the Church. Throughout her life, Mary Ann sang at many weddings, funerals and sporting events and shared every opportunity to spread her love of music to others. In 2015, she was honored at the Quincy Rotary Club as a recipient of the George Irwin Arts Award for lifetime achievement in music education.
Survivors include her aunt Sr. Ann Amen, SSJ of Erie, PA; a sister Martha Daly of St. Louis, MO; a brother Mark Amen of Tampa, FL; a brother Ralph Amen of Peoria, IL; her son Max Middendorf and his wife Brenda of Pittsfield, IL; her grandson Craig Lacy and his wife Rachel of Pittsfield, IL; and a great granddaughter Karsyn Lacy of Pittsfield, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Middendorf, her parents, her step-mother Marjorie Freiburg Amen, a brother Rev. Pierre Amen, OFM; an infant brother Lawrence Kenneth Amen and a brother-in-law Richard Daly.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in Blessed Sacrament Church in Quincy. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.
