Mary Ann Klossing

Mary passed at Saint Vincent’s Home on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 8:00 A.M. She resided at Sunset Apartments. She was 80 years old.

Mary was born on October 14, 1940 in Key West, Florida, the daughter of James and Etta Mae (Knowles) Coulson. She married James D. Spidle on September 23, 1957. Together they had four sons. Later in life, she married Kenneth R. Klossing and he preceded her in death.

Mary Ann worked at Blessing Hospital for seventeen years in home healthcare, later switching to hospice, where she found her true calling. After retiring, she worked for Addus Homecare for ten years and then worked privately for another ten years.

She had many hobbies which included going to garage sales, flea markets, auctions, and going antique hunting. She also enjoyed playing horseshoes and spending time at Mark Twain Casino.

Left to cherish Mary Ann’s memory are James D. Spidle of Quincy; her four sons: Steven (Nancy) Spidle of Quincy, James (Melissa) Spidle of Quincy, Robert (Donna) Spidle of Rensselaer, Indiana, Jeffrey (Connie Murray) Spidle of Quincy; her four sisters: Judy Lee Coulson-Hibbert of Quincy, Betty “Jeannie” (Dick) Hibbert of Quincy, Ruth Wellman of Quincy, Henrietta (Wayne) Gallher of Marblehead, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by many wonderful friends, including Janet Spurlock of Goodland, Indiana and her beloved chihuahua, Hercules.

She was preceded in death by her parents: James and Etta Coulson; two sisters: Shirley Mae Coulson and Linda Lou Fussellman; two brothers: James Henry Coulson and Kenneth Herbert Coulson; one granddaughter, April (Spidle) Priest; and one great-grandson, Murphy Spidle.

The family would like to express special thanks to Linda Asher of Quincy, Linda Ellis of Marcelline, Illinois, Debra “Debbie” Snider of Quincy, and Meals on Wheels for their services. They would also like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and CNAs for providing care.

A message from Mary: “I love you all very much. Live each day to the fullest and don’t forget to say I love you every time you part. For as long as I can put two feet on the floor, that’s a good day for me!”

A private funeral service is planned. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 26, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Services are in care of Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. www.dukerandhaugh.com

    To the family,
    Mary was a wonderful and loved person. Who always cared about everyone else before herself. She will be missed, I can say I am blessed to have known her. Rest in peace Mary!
