Martha T. Kaufmann

Martha T. Kaufmann, age 87, of 919 N. 50th Street, Quincy, died on Sunday, December 21, 2008 in her home. She was born on September 21, 1921 in Shelburn, IN. She was a daughter of Stanley and Mary (Suski) Tarczueski. She married Bernard Kaufmann on June 17, 1944 in Indianapolis, IN. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2007.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

Martha was a graduate of Shelburn High School in Shelburn, IN. She attended Darvis Fashion School and Notre Dame Girls College in Cleveland.

She had been an interior designer & homemaker. Martha enjoyed golfing, square dancing and entertaining. She was an active community volunteer throughout her life: as a young mother and worker at Princess Peggy in Vandalia Il., she served as local union (ILGWU) President; and during her retirement in Florida, she headed the Micco Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. She took great pleasure in her family, friends and living her life to the fullest.

Survivors include:
TWO CHILDREN: Carolyn Hamann and her husband Mike of Quincy, and Mark E. Kaufmann and his wife Carol Landry of Ypsilanti, MI;
THREE GRANDCHILDREN: Jill Hart and her husband Kevin, Jennifer Leonard both of Quincy, and Emma Landry Kaufmann of Ypsilanti, MI;
SIX GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Conner Hart, Katy Hart, Jocelyn Hart, Jessica Leonard, Emily Leonard, and Aiden Brunier.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, Bernadette in infancy and Marie Kaufmann, a son Stephen Kaufmann in infancy, six sisters, Anna Riley, Sr. Donata Tarczueski, Stella Jones, Irene McMahon, Sophie Shoemacher and Marie Rosinski, and two brothers, Mike and John Tarczewski.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church by Fr. Tom Shaughnessy. Interment will be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Champaign, Illinois. Visitation will be Friday morning from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Champaign, IL.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church or to the Knights of Columbus T.V. Mass for Shut-ins.
