Marjorie V. Steinkamp
Marjorie V. Steinkamp, age 89, of Quincy, died on Monday, March 25, 2024 in Blessing Hospital. She was born on January 20, 1935 in Quincy, IL, the daughter of John & Marie (Winking) Kuhn. She married James F. Steinkamp on November 20, 1954 in St. John’s Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on December 9, 2022.
Margie worked as a telephone operator for Illinois Bell Telephone and General Telephone. She later worked at Blessing Hospital in the Communications Department from 1988 until her retirement in February of 2005.
Margie was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. She enjoyed water exercise classes at the YMCA. In her younger years, she was a lifeguard. In her early 50’s Margie showed her wild side by proudly owning and riding her Yamaha 350 motorcycle. She would cruise the back roads, many times with her brother, Bob Kuhn. Margie enjoyed cooking, canning and sewing. She also liked all the times traveling to see her children and grandchildren.
Margie is survived by her children: Michael (Madeline) Steinkamp of Los Alamos, NM, Catherine (Jack) Mikelson of Lees Summit, MO and Susan Steinkamp. Grandchildren: Jennifer Mikelson, Julie (Brandon) Hill and Jamie (Justin) Stein, Henry Steinkamp, William Steinkamp, George Steinkamp, Arthur Steinkamp, Charles Steinkamp, and Margaret Steinkamp. Great Grandchildren: Lillian and James Hill. Siblings: Janet (Ray) Allison and Barbara (Stephen) St. Marie. Brother-in-law: Bill Jansen. Sister-in-law: Florence (Tom) Dietrich.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
In addition to her husband, Margie was also preceded in death by her siblings: Robert Kuhn and Patricia Jansen.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff of Sunset Assisted Living for the kind and thoughtful care they gave to Margie during the last two years.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Peter Catholic Church on Tuesday from 9:30 AM until the time of the services at 10:30 AM. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church or to Quincy Notre Dame High School or to Adams County Right to Life. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
