Marjorie Helen Wavering

Marjorie H. Wavering age 95, of Quincy, IL died on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 3:07 p.m. in the emergency room of Blessing Hospital. She was born May 23, 1917 in Quincy, a daughter of Robert and Christine (Tushaus) Schepers. She married Paul B. Wavering on April 8, 1940 in Quincy St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Paul preceded her in death on March 12, 1997.

Marjorie had worked as a telephone operator for Illinois Bell Telephone in Quincy. She supplied 12 local grocery stores with her special red hot tamales before she and her husband Paul started their businesses. Together they owned and operated Ben Franklin Stores in Quincy, Palmyra and Monroe City, MO. They retired in 1995 and at that time turned over the store operations to their son Jeff.

Marjorie was a graduate of Quincy High School. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.

She loved playing Gin with her son and grandaughter and usually winning at the game. Marjorie liked to go antiquing and doing crossword puzzles and reading. She had many wonderful times spent at the Lake with her grandchildren. Marjorie was a member of the Ladies of St. Francis and Altrusa.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Wavering of Macon, MO; three grandchildren, Christine Hartline and her husband Roy of Columbia, MO; Jennifer Gohagan and her husband Dan of Mandeville, LA and Tony Wavering of New York, N.Y.
Three great grandchildren, Allison, Jack and Owen; nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Jon Wavering, her daughter Janet Schwartz, her two brothers Robert and John “Jack” Schepers, and 3 sisters: Mary Virginia Farrell, Kathlyn Rogers, and Carlene Kipping, and a niece Karol Farrell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 2 , 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church by the Rev. Tom Schaughnessy, O.F.M. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Church. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Catholic Church or to Sunset Home.
