Marjorie Cecilia Musholt Bergman

Marjie was born January 13, 1932, to Isabel Bohne Musholt and Alois Musholt in Quincy, Illinois. She was the sixth of eight children in a close-knit loving family. She attended St. Francis Solanus grade school and then Notre Dame High School, graduating in 1950. Marjie attended Quincy College, studying business and art. A handsome NDHS classmate, Tom Bergman, asked her to a dance, and she married him on April 11, 1953, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Quincy. Tom was in the Navy and they spent the first months of married life in Norfolk, Virginia. After his discharge, they returned to Quincy and began to raise a family while Tom established Landscaping Brothers with his brother, Wayne. Tom and Marjie were blessed with six children: Jan, Diane, Dave, Ted, Joyce and Matt.

Marjie was an excellent cook, and her dinner table often fed extra guests. Her famous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and whoopie pies were always welcome treats. Marjie was a nature lover and made sure the birds were well fed year-round. Marjie volunteered at St. Mary’s Hospital for many years and shared her artistic talent by making flower arrangements for the gift shop. Marjie was a devoted Catholic and faithfully led the daily rosary at St. Francis for many years.

Although her last years were a struggle with metastasized breast cancer, Marjie and Tom were so appreciative of the compassionate and personal care she received from Dr. Raymond Smith and his excellent support team, especially Elexis. She ended her days on earth supported by her devoted caregivers Sheila Griffin, Lois Harris, and hospice nurse, Keaton. She wanted to thank the wonderful nurses on the oncology floor and Skilled Nursing Unit at Blessing Hospital and the kind woman at the front desk who always helped Tom. Marjie was most grateful to her loving family who enabled her to spend her last days at home.

Family was most important to Marjie, and she is survived by many who loved her dearly: her husband, Tom; children and spouses Jan & Jim Flanagan, Kansas City, Mo; Diane & Tom Frese, Quincy; Dave & Sue Bergman, Quincy; Ted & Carol Bergman, Chesterfield, Mo; Joyce & Bruce Romine, St. Louis; Matt & Shelley Bergman, Quincy. Also her beloved grandchildren, their spouses and her great-grandchildren: Bryan & Kirsten Flanagan (Mary Elizabeth, Kathleen, Thomas); Sean & Cassie Flanagan (James, Lily); Kevin & Laura Flanagan (Clare); Nathan & Brandy Frese; Julie & James Buchheit (Henry); Amanda & John Howard; Alexis Bergman; Josh, Jessica, Sam Bergman; Jack, Olivia, Valerie, Casey Romine; Lake, Sierra Bergman. And two more “greats” due next summer. She will be missed by her brothers Clyde, Stan (Mary) and Frank Musholt; Patty Musholt, Betty Bergman Henry and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved lifelong friends from high school, her St. Mary’s Hospital volunteer days, Quincy University swim group and card groups.

Marjie was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Carol Weisenhorn, Fr. Silas Musholt, O.F.M.; Isabel Schmidt, and Annabel Degenhardt.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church officiated by Rev. James Wheeler, O.F.M.
