Marjorie A. Amen
Marjorie A. Amen, age 91, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 3201 Lantern LN, died on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in the Home. She was born on June 11, 1920 in Quincy, IL the daughter of Max & Alvera (VandenBoom) Freiburg. She married Kenneth Amen on August 19, 1972 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on June 13, 2002. Marjorie was a graduate of Monticello College. Mrs. Amen worked at the Miller-Castle-Freiburg Insurance Agency for many years.
Marjorie was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Along with her husband, she was very active in the TEC and Cursillo movements. She participated in the 1st Cursillo in the Quincy area. She and her husband traveled extensively and resided for seventeen winters in Tucson, Arizona. Marjorie was a master bridge player. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Franciscan Missionary Union and the Secular Franciscans.
Marjorie is survived by:
FOUR STEP-CHILDREN: Mary Ann Middendorf of Quincy, Martha Daly of Florissant, MO; M. Mark Amen of Tampa, FL; and Ralph Amen of Peoria.
TWO STEP-GRANDCHILDREN: Max Middendorf and his wife Brenda and Kate Hall and her husband Tim.
FOUR STEP-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Craig Lacy and his wife Rachel, Colby Hall, Hunter Hall and Emmie Hall.
SISTER-IN-LAW: Patricia Freiburg.
Numerous nieces, and nephews including: Jack Freiburg and his wife Carolyn, Julie Schneider and her husband Stephen, Sharon Freiburg, Mark Freiburg and his wife Kim, David Freiburg and his wife Barbara, Bob Christensen and Judy Devine.
Numerous great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives also survive.
In addition to her husband, Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, a step-son Father Pierre Amen, OFM, two brothers: Max Freiburg, Jr., and John “Jack” Freiburg, a sister: Jean Christensen, two step-sons-in-law: Richard Middendorf and Richard Daly, sister-in-law: Shirley Freiburg and brother-in-law: James Christensen and a niece Susan Freiburg.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday morning at Blessed Sacrament Church beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church or the Franciscan Missionary Union.
I am so sorry to hear that Aunt Marge passed away. I remember how she treated me so well when we came to Quincy. I treasure the necklace she had made me for as I was growing up. She will be missed.
