Marilyn Ruth (Breder) Bracy

Marilyn Ruth (Breder) Bracy, 95, of Quincy, IL. passed away peacefully at 5:34 p.m. May 9, 2024 surrounded in love by her family. She was born Sept.13, 1928 in Quincy, IL., a daughter of Milton E. and Genevieve Dehner Breder. She married Joseph F. Bracy on June 17,1950. He preceded her in death Oct. 28, 1988.

She was a 1946 graduate of Quincy High School in Quincy, IL where she played the violin in the school orchestra. She went on to attend Gem City Business College where she achieved a secretarial degree. She worked as a bookkeeper for Abbott Automotive, then was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young. She was a secretary at Lincoln School in the 1970’s. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Good Samaritan Home for several years before retiring in 1980.

She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church for many years where she sang in the choir and served on the Altar Guild. She became a member of St. John’s Anglican Church where she also served on the Altar Guild. In 2017 she was confirmed as a Roman Catholic.

Marilyn and Joseph had three children, Gary, Ann, and Alan, all of Quincy, IL. She had three goals in life in life—to serve God, love her family and take care of her furry friends. Her love for her family was unconditional and she was always ready to help out in any way possible. She loved with all her heart and never lost her sense of humor. She provided a loving home to numerous kitties throughout her life and they gave her great joy and companionship.

She is survived by her three children, Gary (Kathy) Bracy, Ann Bracy Pfaffe, Alan Bracy, five grandchildren, Brittany Bracy, Elizabeth (Brandon) Williams, Brooke (Blake) Houston, Melissa (Jake) Bliven, and Michael Bracy, and two great-grandchildren, Elise Williams and Izabella Bliven. Also one brother, Milton E. (Lyla) Breder Jr. and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Milton E. Breder and Genevieve Dehner Breder, husband Joseph F. Bracy and two sisters, Georgeann Cope and Constance Baker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church with Rev. Steven Arisman officiating. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Monday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Catholic Church or Blessing Hospice.
