Marilyn R. Shrader
Marilyn R. Shrader, age 80, of Quincy, passed away at her home in Quincy on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. She was born on July 7, 1942, in Quincy, the daughter of Tom (T. K.) and Ruth (Longlett) Baily. She graduated from Central High School in Camp Point in 1960. Marilyn married her high school sweetheart, Harold (Buzz) Shrader on June 18, 1960, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Coatsburg. He preceded her in death on July 10, 2022.
Marilyn was a member of Central Baptist Church and was a Sunday school teacher and a 4-H club leader when her daughters were young. She received the God-Home-Country Award from 4-H and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. This award is the highest award both can give.
Marilyn was past president of Blessing Women’s Board, President of Blessing’s Volunteers in Partnership and President of Quincy Hospitality House. She was a member of Blessing Women’s Board for 30 years and a gift buyer for 17 of those years for the Tea Room.
In 2007, Marilyn received the Volunteer of the Year Award from the Quincy Hospitality House. In 2009, she received the Excellence Award from Blessing Hospital Corporate Services. She represented Blessing Hospital in the Illinois Hospital Advocacy-Constituency of Volunteers. She also was a Region 3 leader of that organization.
Marilyn was an election judge and a lifetime member of both the Great River Genealogy Society and the Hancock County Genealogy Society. She also worked at Sears, Bergner’s and Wal-Mart. She enjoyed doing needlework and genealogy and had a deep interest in Quincy and Camp Point history. Marilyn was an avid postcard collector and attended many shows. She also loved to travel and could often be found “on the road again!”
Marilyn is survived by: THREE DAUGHTERS: Debbie McNeil of Quincy, Susan Starr of Lakeland, FL, and Julie (Dennis) Klauser of Quincy. THREE GRANDCHILDREN: Leslie (Ben) Bope of Tucson, AZ, Evan (Kayla) Klauser of Quincy and Dr. Brittney (Chris) Moore of Quincy. FOUR GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Rylie and Jaxon Klauser and Emerson and Amelia Moore all of Quincy. ONE SISTER: Wanda (Al) McDonnell of Blue Grass, IA. Two nieces, one great nephew and three step great grandchildren also survive.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Central Baptist Church. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church or the Hancock County Historical Society.
