Marilyn R. Powell
Marilyn R. Powell, age 81, of the Sunset Home, formerly of 2223 College, passed away peacefully in the arms of her devoted and loving husband and went to her Lord, on August 30, 2014. She was born on August 3, 1933 in Omaha, NE, the daughter of Andrew William & Ressie A. (Head) Murphy. Marilyn was a 1951 graduate of Quincy High School. She married her high school sweetheart and fellow 1951 graduate, Robert T. Powell, Sr. on July 14, 1951. He survives. Marilyn was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Marilyn was an amazing and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an amazing listener and all of her family relied on her greatly because of that fact. She also loved crossword puzzles. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

THREE CHILDREN: Robert T. Powell, Jr. and wife Angela of West Frankfort, IL, Lori Ann Powell of Quincy; Colleen Elizabeth Powell (Catherine Rose Jackson) of Bolingbrook, IL.
EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN: Marilyn Rose Powell, Mark Alan Powell, Jamie Lyn Fox and her husband Chris, Coriann Louise Lyssy and her husband Benny III, Cassandra Powell, Candice Rose Powell (Duane Cotton, Sr.), Heather Ann Skipski and her husband Kevin, Bradley Douglas Gale (Brandon Copeland).
12 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Nelson Thomas Lindhorst, Jaron Alan Lindhorst, Chloe Gail Fox, Benny Vincent Lyssy IV, Sean David Lyssy, Riley Patrick Lyssy, and Cadence Elizabeth Lyssy, DeLayla Powell, DeAngelo Powell, DeAndre Powell, DeMonte Powell and DJ Powell.
Numerous Nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, a son David Powell, one brother: Harold Murphy, three sisters: Muriel Murphy, Carol Jean Parton, and Mildred Teal.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 1:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Quincy Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Adams County Alzheimers’ Association, Blessing Foundation for Hospice or to the Sunset Home.
