Marilyn Jean Gibson

Marilyn Jean Gibson, age 93, of Quincy, died on Thursday, July 16, 2020 in the Good Samaritan Home. She was born in Quincy on January 4, 1927, the daughter of Hayward and Elizabeth (Eickelshulte) Gibson.

Marilyn graduated from Quincy Notre Dame High School. She was employed by Dr. McGavern and Dr. Sutherland until her retirement.

She is survived by her nephews: Kenneth A. Gibson of Quincy, Robert (Judy) Gibson of Long Beach, CA and Larry of Michigan; nieces: Barbara (Paul) Emerson of Peoria, Christine (Russ) Jess of Schaumburg, IL and Bessie Gibson Heinze of Quincy. Many great nieces and nephews along with great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews also survive.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her mother and father, brothers and sisters-in-law, Arthur and Viola Gibson and Clarence (Bud) and Virginia Gibson, nephews: James H. Gibson, Brother Bill Gibson and Gene Gibson and niece, Shirley and her husband, Melvin Powell.

Marilyn was a lifelong member of St. John Catholic Church until its closing and then became a member of the Church of St. Peter and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

The family wishes to thank The Anna Brown Unit of Good Samaritan Home for their care and compassion given to Marilyn.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and 10:00 a.m. in the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 8:30–9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church or the Church of St. Peter.

    This makes us so sad. We would take Marilyn to mass on Thursdays. Often she would tell me no, but I’d send my husband into her and a few minutes later here they’d come! She could be cantankerous… but he could always get a smile out of her. She was a very special lady and we liked her a lot. We will miss her!
