Marilyn Jean Bertrand
Marilyn Jean Bertrand, age 81, of 4728 Woodland Trail in Quincy died on Friday, March 11, 2016 in Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, MO. She was born on June 15, 1934 in Clifton, IL, a daughter of Edward T. and Mary E. (Riordan) Mathy. On February 27, 1954 she married Harold J. Bertrand in St. Peters Church, Clifton, IL. He survives
Marilyn graduated from Clifton High School. She worked in the cafeteria at Quincy Notre Dame for twenty-five years. Marilyn was an avid QND, QU and St. Louis Cardinals fan. She liked playing golf at the K of C course, attending senior luncheons and playing slot machines. She always enjoyed attending her children’s, grandchildren’s and great- grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Harold and their children, Dan (Kelly) Bertrand, Marengo, IL; Barb (Ferd) Niemann, Quincy; Brian Bertrand, Springfield, IL; Jeff (Lynne) Bertrand, Bloomington, IL; and Tom (Michelle) Bertrand of Rochester, IL; one brother, Edward Mathy of Clifton, IL, two sisters, Dorothy Riebe, Clifton, Il and Mary (Bill) Green of Chino, CA; one sister-in-law, Marge (Pat) O’Connor of Bradley, IL; Seventeen grandchildren, Brock, Bailey, Brooke and Beau Bertrand; Kailee (Frank) Flesch; Ferd (Angela) Niemann; Blake, Brett and Alexis Niemann; Morgan, Shannon, Parker, Mitchell and Drake Bertrand; Nathan, Erica and Connor Bertrand. Five great-grandchildren, Addie, Tripp, Stone and Finley Flesch and Anthony Niemann; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Donald Mathy, Russell (Rosella) Mathy; Duane (Jennie) Mathy and LaVerne (Zeah) Mathy; three sisters, Marie (George) Fortino; Eileen (Richard) Yohnke and Maxine (Howard) Middleton. Two daughters, Debra Sue and Mary Elizabeth in infancy.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter by the Monsignor Leo Enlow. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Quincy Notre Dame Foundation for a scholarship in her name or to the American Heart Association
