Margaret Thompson

Margaret Thompson, age 92, formerly of 1721 Jackson, Quincy, died on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 5:45 a.m. in Blessing Hospital. She was born September 19, 1923 in Adams County, IL; a daughter of Frank & Helen (Hayes) Sparrow. She married the love of her life, George W. Thompson, Sr. on September 28, 1940 in Palmyra, MO, he preceded her in death on October 4, 2003.

Margaret worked for several years at Motorola in Quincy. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Parish.

She loved her husband, children and grandchildren most of all and being with them was the best. Margaret and George were known for getting in the car and going, and they traveled ready to extend a day trip with a packed suitcase in the trunk. She liked going for rides and getting coffee with her Senior Citizen’s Discount, she enjoyed a trip to “The Boat” and taking the trips sponsored by Sunset Home.

Survivors include her children, Judy Francis and her husband Dave; Janice French; David Thompson and his wife Vicky; Linda Smith and her husband David; Ann Gibleon and her husband Glenn all of Quincy; Randy Thompson of Eden Prairie, MN and George Thompson and his wife Penny of Ursa, IL. Her brother, Elmer Sparrow and his wife Flo; two sisters, Helen Vollbracht and Phyllis Koch all of Quincy; 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother and sister at birth; a grandson Darin Francis, a son-in-law Lewis French and brothers-in-law Richard Vollbracht and Francis Koch.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Sunset Home Activities Fund.

    We were sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. Mother was very fond of Margaret. It is not easy to say “goof-bye” even when you know it is best for them. We are thinking of you and keeping you and your family in our prayers.
