Luther Dean Felsman, Sr.
Luther Dean Felsman, Sr., age 99, of Quincy, formerly of Mendon, died peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2018, in the Illinois Veterans Home. He was born August 28, 1918, in Coatsburg, Illinois, the son of Jacob J. and Susie Mae (Shanholtzer) Felsman. He married Jean Merritt on January 31, 1942. They were married 49 years prior to her preceding him in death on August 24, 1991.
Dean served in the US Army, in Trinidad, during WWII. He was employed as an assembler for Gardner Denver, prior to his retirement. He was a member of Grace Methodist Church. He enjoyed gardening, reading the newspaper, and spending time with family, particularly his granddaughters and great grandson.
Dean touched many people with his warm smile and became known as Grandpa to all that he met.
Dean is survived by two granddaughters: Kristine (Ron) Freiling of Cottage Grove, MN; Jennifer (Jamie) Dixon, of Coal Valley, IL; a daughter-in-law, Wanda (Allen) McDonnell, of Blue Grass, Iowa; great grandson, Cameren Felsman-Dixon, of Coal Valley, IL; a niece: Joyce Dolinar of Quincy; nephews: Gerald (Barbara) Ostermueller of Quincy and Kenneth (Linda) Felsman, of Savoy, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jean; his son, Dean Jr; his brother Henry; sisters Mildred, Celesta, Eileen, Violet, and Susie, and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks for all the care and support Grandpa received at the Illinois Veterans Home.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018, at 1:00 pm in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation will be in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home from noon until time of services on Friday, January 12, 2018. The Duker and Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home.
Mr. Felsman always had a smile and pleasant greeting. He served our nation in WWII. May he rest in eternal peace. J&J Curry
