Luella M. Houston

Luella M. Houston age 82, of Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Camp Point, IL, died on
Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 9:24 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. Luella was born July 8, 1931 in Maywood, MO, a daughter of Andrew and Winifred (Drummond) Bridgman. She married Merle Houston on May 28, 1952 in Springfield, IL and he preceded her in death on December 20, 2003.

Luella worked for many years at Motorola, until they closed. At the age of 62, she proudly received her GED thru John Wood Community College. She liked gardening and flowers, but she lived for her family and dearly loved them.

Survivors include her children, Merle “Gene” Houston, Sandy Specht and her husband Harold; Lori Thompson and her husband Greg all of Quincy, and Mark Houston and his wife Crystal of Camp Point, IL.

12 Grandchildren: Jo Anna Stotts, Mickey, Debbie and Dustin Houston, Jacob Leake and his wife Tracy, Jayme Sharp and her husband Daniel, Jared Specht, Lacy Moore and her husband Nathan, Casey Muehring and her husband Cason, Chayse, Cydnee and Caydee Houston.
13 Great-Grandchildren: Kyla Stotts, Wilson, Sterling and Baden Stotts; Annaleese Dolbeare, Blaine and Cole Sharp; Aiden and Lucas Specht, Carl Muehring, Emma and Grady Moore; and Landon Wittland.
Her brothers and sisters, Connie Heilwagen, Donnie Bridgman, Ronnie, Andy and Sharon Bridgman, Bonnie Eickelschulte and Mary Houston along with many nieces and nephews also survive.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Joan Houston and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at Good Samaritan Home. Interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation is Monday evening from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Good Samaritan Home Employees Assistance Fund.

    Lacy and family please accept my sympathy and know you’re in my thoughts and prayers at this time of great loss. I met Luella when she moved to Good Sam a short time ago. A beautiful lady. Love.
