Louis P. McClelland
Louis Paul McClelland, known to friends as “Lou” or “Louie,” passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at the age of 79. Lou was born March 1, 1938, a son of Paul Joseph & Esther (Scheutz) McClelland, Sr.. He married Diana L. Deege, of Quincy, on July 11, 1973, in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives.
Lou was a native of Quincy and Hannibal. He graduated from Quincy High School in 1956 and volunteered for the Army National Guard in 1960, serving until 1967 with the Military Police.
Lou also attended the American Institute of Banking in 1967, and was a graduate of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin, class of 1971. In 1961, Lou began his career in banking at Ralls County State Bank, taking a position as a teller. In 1971, he then took a position with First National Bank of Camdenton. In 1975, Lou became president of Belle State Bank in Belle, Mo., serving in that position until 1981, when he moved back to Quincy and took a position with Town & Country Bank. He was with the bank until he retired in 2012, serving most of those years as executive vice president.
Lou was a member of Quincy Country Club, Spring Lake Country Club, Quincy Gun Club, Rocky Point Club and the Elks Club, as well as a past member of the Missouri Bankers Association. Lou enjoyed many years of skeet shooting and hunting with his dogs. He was also an avid golfer, and enjoyed several holes-in-one.
In addition to his wife, Lou is survived by two sons, Shane (Jeanne) McClelland of Hannibal, Michael McClelland of Osage Beach, Mo., two stepsons, Chris Dougherty of Quincy, and Jon E. (Sandra) Dougherty of Jefferson City, Mo., ten grandchildren, Ashley (Rick) Bates, Heather L. Dougherty, Lindsey Dahler, Heather R. (Shawn) Kinworthy, Zachary (Shyra) Dougherty, all of Jefferson City; Rihannan McClelland and Lucas McClelland, both of Kansas City; Nicole (Justin) Dougherty Fallein of Kansas City; Louis M. and Marley McClelland of Osage Beach, Mo.; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; one brother, Paul (Betty) McClelland of Chicago, one sister, Lynn (Don) Weber of Vidalia, Ga.; one brother-in-law Mike (Donna) Deege of Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Joseph.
Lou will be sadly missed by family and friends, but will live on in their memories forever.
A celebration of Lou’s life will be held Sunday Nov. 5, 2017, 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at Town & Country Inn and Suites at 110 N. 54th St., Quincy. A private family service will be held on Monday. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or to a fund to benefit area food banks. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

I was surprised and saddened to hear of Louie’s sudden death. I will always remember Louie with fond memories since he was my very first date. We were both 12 at the time and my father drove us to and from the Family Theater. So long ago! As classmates, we all enjoyed a good time with Louie and Diana at our 60th HS Reunion. Now, our thoughts and prayers are with you, Diana, and with your family.
