Loren O. Tournear

Loren O. Tournear age 91, of Liberty, IL died on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 2:16 p.m. in Blessing Hospital. Loren was born in Liberty on May 2,1927 a son of Clem and Valinda (Beckman) Tournear. He married Georgeann Brink on November 17, 1967 and she survives.

Loren worked for Packaging Corp. for ten years, he went on to work for R.L. Brink Corp. for 20 years until his retirement. Presently, he was the owner and president of D&L Excavating a business he truly enjoyed working together with his son Darin.

He had served in the U.S. Navy for two years during World War II and served later in the U.S. Army for four years during the Korean War. He received numerous medals for his honorable service in both the Navy and the Army. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

An avid horseman, he was a member of the Illinois Harness Horseman’s Association. He owned and bred horses, and he was extremely proud of his first-bred trotting horse, “Tour Hall” who was also a successful winner. Loren was a farmer too, who owned and raised livestock for many years.

Survivors include: his wife Georgeann; his children: Terry Tournear of Liberty; Patty (Mike) McCaughey of Quincy; Missy (Charlie) Blackburn of Springfield, IL; Darin (Billie) Tournear of Liberty and Janice (Jerry) Gallaher of Edwardsville, IL.

Grandchildren: Abby Lauren Dreyer, Brady Dreyer, Peyton Blackburn, Grant Blackburn, Jarett Tournear, Aidan Gallaher, Greyson Gallaher and Natalie Lauren Gallaher.
Step-Grandchildren: Emily (James) Leffew; Ashley McCaughey and Joe McCaughey; and a step great-grandson, Oliver Leffew.

His brother Gene Tournear of Quincy, and sister Beulah Peters of Coatsburg along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dick Tournear and Russell Tournear.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter by Rev. Aaron Kuhn. Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh.
