Lois K. Thornton
Lois K. Thornton, age 88, of the Sunset Home, died on March 29, 2017, in the Home.
Lois was born December 31, 1928 in Ursa, IL. She was the daughter of Charles and Mildred (Dinkheller) Anderson. Lois graduated from Quincy High School and, in 1948, married Robert Thornton. She was employed with Motorola Inc. from when its facility in Quincy opened until shortly before its closure in 1976. Lois was a member of Madison Park Christian Church and Faith Christian Church, Quincy Boat Club, as well as a lifetime member of the Grace Whipple chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Those who knew Lois will testify to her kind and amiable spirit. Whether it was with her friends, family, or even a stranger in the checkout line, Lois thrived on engaging with others and was never afraid to let her affable nature show. Lois was categorically devoted to her husband of 46 years and together they avidly enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating. She was an unusually skilled trap shooter too, racking up a collection of trophies over her peers of both genders. Lois was the embodiment of goodwill, and would willingly spend hours visiting given the promise of good conversation and perhaps a piece of chocolate.
Lois is survived by her sister-in-law Bonnie Anderson, her niece and nephew-in-law: Christine and Rodney Ward, as well as her great nephew Christopher Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, niece Sherry Anderson, and her brother Howard Anderson.
