Lois J. (Wellman) Schutte
Lois J. (Wellman) Schutte, 91, of Bradford Villa, formerly of 928 Christopher Court in Quincy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 3, 2015. Born June 18, 1923, in Chicago, Lois was the daughter of Alois and Helen (Berter) Wellman. She married James (Jim) Schutte on April 3, 1948 in St. Francis Catholic Church; he preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Schutte attended St. Francis grade school and then graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1941. Mrs. Schutte was a life-long member of St. Francis parish. She retired from the Harris Corporation in 1985 after 20 years of service. In retirement she worked part-time at Bergner’s and volunteered for many years at Ellington School in the mentoring program. Lois could frequently be found on the golf course and enjoyed spending time with friends in her exercise class. She loved her family dearly and unconditionally. She took great pride in her family, work and home.
The family extends a special thanks to the many people who cared for Mrs. Schutte at Blessing Hospital, Good Samaritan Home, and St. Vincent’s Home. During the last two years of her life she resided at Bradford Villa, where she enjoyed the company of her fellow residents and where she was cared for by a loving staff.
She is survived by her son, Philip (Flip), of Quincy, her daughter, Mary Lou (Chris) McClain, of Grayslake, Illinois, three grandchildren, Laura, Tyler (Kristen), and Brian, all of Chicago, and a nephew, Sam Wellman, of Augusta, Georgia.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Schutte was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Wellman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday March 14, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am in the church. A private internment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the church. A luncheon will be held after mass. Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
