Linda ‘Sue’ Young, age 66, of Hardin, MO, went to be with God on Saturday, September 17, 2021, at 8:26 pm at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born on December 13, 1954, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Charles ‘Chuck’ Haynes, Franklin Turhan Bowen and Doris Jean (Irwin) Bowen. Sue married Alan Reid Young on August 13, 1997, in Las Vegas, NV. He survives. Sue graduated with an Associate Degree in Horology and Jewelry Design at Gem City College with an emphasis in Business at John Wood Community College in 1992 in Quincy, IL. Most recently, Sue was a homemaker for many years due to health issues, but had previously worked as an EMT, CNA, and a semi-truck driver. Her CB handles while driving a semi-truck were ‘Tiger Lily’ and ‘Soup,’ with many of her friends continuing to lovingly and jokingly use them as nick names through the years. Although Sue didn’t pursue a career in horology and jewelry design, she had her own equipment at home and enjoyed designing one-of-a-kind pieces and working on clocks and watches in her spare time. Sue was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed quilting. While she was self-trained, Sue excelled at baking and decorating wedding and birthday cakes, and in fact, made many for friends and family through the years. Sue’s other hobbies included: line dancing; shopping at Good Will and the Salvation Army; collecting art; canning and pickling vegetables; making her own fruit jams, jellies, and butters; riding horses; painting; watching Days of Our Lives and science fiction programs; playing puzzle and card games on her tablet; conversing with family and friends on Facebook; drinking coffee, gossiping and getting into mischief with her life-long best friends, Sharon and Phyllis; and collecting jewelry and gemstones to pass on to her children and grandchildren, one day.

Sue was a very stubborn, sassy and strong-willed woman, but she was extremely kind, with a heart of gold. Sue would do anything to help her family, friends, and others in need. No matter the cost, she often put the needs of others above her own. Sue wore many hats in life, but she will be remembered most as: wife, mother, and Nana. She loved her children and grandchildren fiercely and unconditionally, frequently traveling to Quincy to stay for months at a time just to visit and spend time with them. Anyone who knew her, would say that she was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren, often bragging about them on Facebook by posting comments filled with one too-many emojis. Sue loved traveling, camping, and yachting in the ocean with her husband, having many adventures together, through the years. During summer breaks from school, Sue loved to keep her grandchildren at her farm, for several weeks. She taught them to ride horses and traveled with them to various destinations in the summer, such as: multiple theme parks, water parks, Turner Falls, and ‘crystal digging.’ Sue had always dreamed of buying an RV and traversing all over the United States, but sadly, never got the chance.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by: TWO DAUGHTERS and ONE SON: Stacey Tipton (Jay), Stephanie Cramsey, both of Quincy, IL and Anthony Colamatteo (Kimberly Chatten) of Camp Point, IL. THREE STEP-DAUGHTERS and ONE STEP-SON: Michelle Kendall (Kelly) of LaCrosse, WI, Leasa Freeman (Matt) of Simpsonville, SC, Coleen Taylor of Fort Madison, IA, and Chris Shaul of Quincy, IL. GRANDCHILDREN: James Hills, Kelsi Hills (Alex Steinkamp), Kylie Jones (Luke Crow), Schuyler Jones (Lawrence Owsley), and Brooklyn Mastin of Quincy, IL; Payton Schulze of San Antonio, TX; Shelby Schulze of Macomb, IL; Gabriella Chatten and Paige Colamatteo of Camp Point, IL; Riley Freeman of Simpsonville, SC; and Ava Taylor of Fort Madison, IA. GREAT GRANCHILDREN: Reily Hills of Fort Madison, IA; Reece Owsley, Emory Steinkamp, and Elijah Owsley of Quincy, IL: AND MULTIPLE SIBLINGS, UNCLES, AUNTS, and COUSINS.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by: an uncle, Jerry Irwin of Barry, IL; an aunt, Christine Bowen of Belton, TX; and a sister, Trena Jean Mason, of Barry, IL.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial visitation service will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2021, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home, 823 Broadway St., Quincy, IL. A celebration of her life will immediately follow with the announcement to be made at the conclusion of services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Jenson Woods Camp or to the Blessing Hospital Foundation for Hospice. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
