Lester V. ‘Les’ Miller of 1632 Sycamore St., died on Friday, December 30, 2016 in the Sunset Home. He was born on December 31st, 1930 in Quincy, Illinois the son of Maldonett Miller.

He married Margo Wand in February of 2005 in the Lutheran Church of St. John. She survives.

Les attended St. James Lutheran School and graduated in 1945. He then attended Eldon High School and graduated in 1948. Les joined the Marine Corp Reserve in 1948 and was called to active duty in 1950. He remained on active duty for 20 years. Transferred back to the Reserves in 1970 with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was both a Korean and Vietnam Veteran. He retired from the reserves with the Rank of Captain. Les was employed by the Harris Broadcast Company of Quincy as the manager of transmitter and studio products for 14 years. He was also employed by the Department of Motor Vehicles for 9 years.

Les was a past Commander of VFW Post 5129 of Quincy, All State and twice All American Post Commander. He was the Co-Chairman of the Adams County Korean Memorial Committee and Assistant Curator of the All Wars Museum at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. His hobbies included collecting military memorabilia.

In addition to his wife Margo, he is also survived by his children: Terry Thompson, Steve (Darleen) Miller, and Linda Daniels. Step-daughter: Ren’e (Chuck) Orr, Step-son: Jim (Dawn) Wand and a son-in-law: Don Altgilbers. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives also survive.

Les was preceded in death by his mother, his wife Barb, a son Robert Miller and a step-daughter: Reon Altgilbers.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of the services. Private interment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of St. John or to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
