Lester Shumpert

Lester Charles Shumpert, age 57 of 1644 North 4th, died on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on May 26, 1956 in St. Louis, MO to the union of Leroy and Josephine Shumpert, Sr. Lester was the fourth child of this union.

He married Vicky Shanklin Hedrick on April 17, 2011. She survives. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

He received his education in the St. Louis Public School District. He was employed at World Wide Trucking and the University of Missouri- St. Louis for many years. Lester was a very caring person who volunteered a lot of his time over the last twenty years to his Quincy community. Lester was a very unique person, a friend who strengthened you with lots of love, laughter, encouragement and hope. God saw that he was getting tired and had done his best, so he called him home to rest.

In addition to his wife, Vicky, Lester also leaves to cherish his memory:
THREE DAUGHTERS: Terri (DeShawn)Wharton, Carmen and Della Franklin;
TWO SONS: Kardell Alexander and Leroy Franklin; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren all of St. Louis, MO., Seven step-children, seven step-grandchildren all of Quincy, three sisters, Joyce (Christopher) Ferguson, Theresa (Wille) Spratt, both of East St. Louis, IL and Joann Westbrook of St. Louis, MO; three aunts Mary Ramey, Florence Cadamey and Claudette Cadamey of St. Louis, MO and Dorothy Williams of Muskegon, MI; two uncles, Lesley (Pauline) Catmet and Eddie (LaVerne) Cadamey of St. Louis, MO and a host of nieces, great nieces, nephews, great nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Leroy Shumpert, Jr., and a step-father H. C. Jackson.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 1:00 PM in First Baptist Church by Rev. Dr. Orville B. Jones, Jr. Interment will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Friedens Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of the services at the church. Memorials may be made to the church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
