LeRoy Robert Sohn

LeRoy Robert Sohn, age 94, of the Illinois Veterans Home, died on Friday, December 15, 2017 in the Home. He was born on August 31, 1923 in Quincy, IL the son of Albert F. & Catherine Agnes (Timpe) Sohn. He married Elsie M. Anders on November 4, 1971 in Liberty, IL. She preceded him in death on August 22, 1990. LeRoy worked for Western Ready Mix. He also was in construction in the area for Local #919. He served in the United States Navy in the Merchant Marine during WWII from April 12, 1944 to May 25, 1946. He served aboard the USS Seu Anne Seam. He was of the Catholic Faith.

LeRoy enjoyed playing guitar. LeRoy loved baseball and in his youth played for the Quincy Red Caps. He also enjoyed hunting and bowling.

LeRoy is survived by:
A BROTHER: Albert ‘Bud’ Sohn and his wife Joyce.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife he was also preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Harold and Emil Sohn and sisters: Charlotte Neuman and Ruth Lohman.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 11:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery by the Navy Military Honors and the American Legion Post #37 Burial Detail. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activities Fund. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
