LeRoy Joseph Hummel

LeRoy Joseph Hummel, age 91, of Louisville, KY, died on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center, Louisville, KY. He was born on June 2, 1921 in Quincy, a son of Anton & Agnes (Brink) Hummel. He married Bernadine E. Bracy on February 26, 1949 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She survives.

Mr. Hummel attended St. John Catholic School. In his earlier days he was a truck driver for his father’s business, Hummel Construction. He then worked as a truck driver for Kohl’s Wholesale for 24 years until his retirement.

He was a three-year veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II serving two years overseas. He was active in the Boy Scouts at St. John’s School with his sons, Mark & Donald.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles for which he served as president. He was at the time of his death the oldest living member of the Eagles. He was a lifetime member of the South Side Boat Club. He enjoyed going to see his grandchildren and great granddaughters in Kentucky. He was a racing fan and enjoyed going to Quincy Raceways and watching NASCAR on TV.

TWO SONS, Mark Hummel and his wife Donna of Louisville, KY and Donald Hummel and his wife Rita of Quincy, IL.
TWO GRANDCHILDREN, Lori (Travis) Jones and Christopher Hummel, both of Louisville, KY
TWO GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, Abigail Jones and Alexandria Jones, both of Louisville, KY
ONE BROTHER, Melvin Hummel of Quincy, IL
ONE SISTER-IN-LAW, Evelyn Hummel of Quincy
Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Margaret Hummel, Ruth McClinthen, Dorothy Hummel & Florence Anders; six brothers, Raymond, Walter, Wilber, Herb, Ralph & Paul Hummel.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
