Leroy A. Banks
Leroy Anthony Banks, a resident of the IL Veterans Home Quincy died May 14, 2015 at the Home. Leroy was born June 13, 1929 in New Orleans, LA to August and Marie Banks. Leroy recently moved to the Home from Chicago where he retired in 1993 after 26 years of service with the City of Chicago Department of Water.
He was a graduate of Gilbert Academy in New Orleans, and he served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. After moving to Chicago, he became proprietor of the B&W Delicatessen before working for the City of Chicago. Leroy was a long-time resident of the Chatham Park Village Cooperative in Chicago where he participated in the Cooperative’s activities and community.
He enjoyed listening to Jazz music and attending concerts.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Gus and Edward and sister Betty.
He is survived by daughters Michele Richard of Mesa, AZ, Claudia Banks of Chicago and grandchildren, Allison, Brett and Jared Richard.
A memorial Mass will be held on June 13, at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church in Chicago, and interment will be at St. Vincent Cemetery 2 in New Orleans, LA
