Leonard Meyer

Leonard Meyer, age 94, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of Camp Point, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 22, 2013 in Blessing Hospital. He was born on September 12, 1918 in Adams Co., IL the son of John & Elizabeth (Benz) Meyer. He married Virginia Frericks on June 10, 1942. They celebrated 70 years of marriage this past year. Virginia survives and resides at Good Samaritan Home. Mr. Meyer graduated from St. Anthony Grade School. Over the years, Leonard worked at Electric Wheel, the Camp Point Elevator, the Broadway Feed Store and drove a bus for the Liberty School District. Mr. Meyer was also a life-long farmer, not moving off the farm until July of 2007. He was also a NFO Member. Along with his wife, Leonard was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. Leonard enjoyed life, had a fantastic memory, and loved to tell stories. Leonard also greatly enjoyed his family.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Mary Meyer, and four brothers: George, Marcelles, Albert and Johnny Meyer and a son-in-law: Steve Schulze

A special thanks to the staff at Blessing Hopsital and Dr. Patel. Leonard received excellent and loving care from all the nurses–they made his passing easier on all of his family.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camp Point, IL. Interment in Calvary Cemetery in Quincy. Visitation will be held on Sunday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 PM. at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home in Quincy. Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
