Leonard George Obert

Leonard George Obert, age 79, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 2852 Elm St., Quincy died on Monday, August 20, 2012 in the Home. He was born on March 13, 1933 in Quincy, a son of Lawrence M. and Cecilia C. (Ohnemus) Obert.

Leonard attended St. Francis Grade School. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. In 1955, he entered the United States Navy. One of his proudest accomplishments during his military career was his association with famous 4-Star Admiral Arleigh A. Burke. Leonard had many opportunities to converse and serve with Admiral Burke during his work at Moffett Field, California. Leonard worked for Gardner Denver Corporation for 42 years, retiring in 1996. He also farmed for most of his life selling Poll Herford Bulls in Illinois and Missouri. Leonard was a member of the Olde Thyme Association and greatly enjoyed attending the Adams County Fair. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus since 1959. Leonard also bowled at the former Knights of Columbus building at 8th & Maine for 20 years.

He is survived by:
ONE BROTHER: Lawrence Obert and his wife Shirley.
NIECES AND NEPHEWS: Kathleen Obert, John Obert and his wife Michelle, Judy Obert, Mary Kay Schlegl and her husband Bill, Marsha Barnes and her husband Charles, Joseph Obert and his wife Catherine, Sherry Matthews and her husband Chuck, and Karen Hochgraber and her husband Larry.
Several great nieces, great nephews and other relatives also survive.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Joseph Obert and one sister-in-law Mary Obert.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 9:30 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00. Memorials may be made to St. Francis Parish. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
