Leona Fern Kittle
Leona Fern Kittle, age 100, of 1318 Springdale South Quincy, formerly of Colorado Springs, CO, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 in North Adams Home, Mendon, IL. She was born April 24, 1913 in Ursa, IL, a daughter of Homer and Mamie (Exon) Bittleston. She married Loyd Adee in Bowling Green, MO in 1935. He preceded her death. She later married Ralph Kittle. He preceded her in death on September 2, 1994.
Fern’s family migrated to Missouri in the early 1900’s and settled at Hester. She attended grade school in Maywood, MO and graduated from Canton High School.
Fern worked as a secretary to the Department of Interior in Washington and retired in California working for the Naval Department in El Toro. She recently returned to Quincy to live with her brother, George (Margie) Elliott.
She was active in Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary 408. Fern was an avid reader and loved spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by one brother, George (Margie) Elliott of Quincy, one daughter-in-law Rosemary Adee, Grandchildren Sheila M.(Adee) McGrath and Frank J. Adee. Great Grandchildren Kaitlyn Rose McGrath, Nice Adee and Nicolas Adee, a nephew George (Denna) Elliott, nieces Brenda (Kevin) Vandament and Debra S. Howe, all of Quincy.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son Robert W. Adee; two stepchildren, Billy Ray Jansen and Ron Kittle.
A memorial service for friends and family will be held on Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 5:00 P.M. Vermont Street United Methodist Church on 818 Vermont St., Quincy IL. Interment will be the New Providence Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Illinois Veteran’s Home Activities Fund or to the Donor’s Choice. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
