Lawrence W. O’Brien

Lawrence W. O’Brien, age 88, of the Sunset Home, formerly of Durham, MO, died on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 5:05 PM in the Sunset Home. He was born on May 30, 1927 in Ewing, MO, the son of Bernard Otto and Ella (Kroeger) O’Brien. He married Patricia A. Ehrhardt on June 6, 1953. She preceded him in death on December 16, 2010.

Mr. O’Brien was a farmer in the Lewis Co. area. He was an Army Veteran of the Korean Era. He was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ewing. Lawrence was a member of the Lewistown American Legion #578. He was also a former member of the Ewing Saddle Club and the Eagles Club in Quincy.

One of Lawrence’s recent favorite memories was being able to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington in 2011.

FIVE CHILDREN: John O’Brien and his wife Debra of Ewing, MO; Vernon O’Brien and his wife Dee of Durham, MO; Willie O’Brien and his wife Deb of Maywood, MO; Marilyn Boone and her husband R.J. of Plainville, IL and David O’Brien and his wife DeLinda of Palmyra, MO.
TWELVE GRANDCHILDREN: Jamie Oitker and her husband Gary; Terry O’Brien and his wife Angela; Matthew O’Brien and his wife Jennifer; Michelle Heins and her husband Ben; Jeffrey O’Brien and his wife Emily; Laura Scott and her husband D.J.; Daniel Kuhne and David Kuhne; Daniel Boone, Rachel Boone and her fiance’ Dalton Berry, Ryan Boone and Derek O’Brien and his wife Karen.
NINE GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Kristen and Taryn Oitker, Toby and Tyler O’Brien and McKenna and Nicholas O’Brien, Braxton Scott; and Case & Cole O’Brien.
TWO BROTHERS: G.L. “Mike” O’Brien and his wife Clara and William M. “Butch” O’Brien and his wife Dorothy
BROTHER-IN-LAW: Raymond Schmidt
Numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

In addition to his wife, Lawrence was also preceded in death by: his parents; a brother: Donald O’Brien; and 2 sisters: Rosie Hugenberg and Kathleen Schmidt.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 9:15 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 4-7 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Adams County, the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ewing, MO or to the Great River Honor Flight.

    My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time. My fondest memory of Lawrence is when he was in a room down the hall from my mother at Country Aire he would always bring his dog statue into her room and make her smile because she loved dogs.
