Laura Ann Schuering Henke
Laura Ann Schuering Henke age 58, of Quincy died on Saturday, July 22, 2017 in her home. Laura was born February 15, 1959 in Quincy, the daughter of Ed and Carolyn (Belker) Schuering.
Laura was a School Nurse working for the Quincy Public Schools for over twenty years. She was instrumental in the formation and activities of the Teen Mother Program at Quincy High School, and this involvement was a big priority for her.
She was a 1977 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School. She went on to receive her R.N. Degree for St. John School of Nursing in Springfield, IL and her B.S.N. from Chamberlain College in St. Louis, MO.
Laura was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her daughters, Jessica Elwell and her husband Drew of St. Charles, MO and Maggie Henke of Quincy; her brothers, Mike Schuering and his wife Becky of Blue Springs, MO: Jim Schuering and his wife Karen of St. Louis, MO and David Schuering and his wife Lisa of Brentwood, MO; two grandchildren, Quinn and Reid Elwell. Nieces and nephews, Steven and his wife Michi; Kelly, Lyndsay and her fiancé Victor Recalde, Kate, Alex, Annie, Will and Nate.
She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.
Laura’s family is tremendously grateful for the compassion and care given to her by Blessing Cancer Center, Unity Pointe Hospice, and friends and nurses lovingly referred to as the “Seven Strong”.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter by Monsignor Leo Enlow. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. My condolences to the entire Schuering family. Heaven is honored to receive such a beautiful soul. Laurie’s smile and joyful spirit will never be forgotten.
I’m grateful to have known her and will have those forever memories from back in our younger years.

We were neighbors two times in our life and I never remember her not having a smile on her face. So heartsick for your loss and her struggle over the years. Hoping my mom gave her a big hug when she arrived in heaven. God bless you all.

I am so sorry for your loss. Laura was a kind and caring person and helped so many QHS students in both her role as nurse and assisting the teen mother program. I worked with her and the other nurses each year on a prom dress project for QHS students—–such enjoyment! Laura was part of our QHS lunch group—-so much fun and friendship! She will be missed!
I met Laura when my son started at QHS. She loved him from day 1. You all have been in my prayers for a long time. Prayers continue. Sending you our deepest sympathies.
