Lannie E. Griggs

Lannie E. Griggs, age 80, of Liberty, IL passed away Saturday, April 18, 2020 in his home surrounded by family. He was born August 19, 1939 to George Griggs and Velma (Paden) Griggs in Meyer, Il. Lannie served in the US Army from 1963-1965. He was a retired truck driver, over the years, he drove for McNay, Sharkey, Young and R.W. Reichert truck lines. He always loved working on cars and motorcycles in his garage with anyone who wanted to visit. He married Karen Sue Hayes-Danner on December 7th, 1974 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Quincy, Il. From this marriage came two children, George Travis (Dani) Griggs and Teri Lynn (Nathan) Voss.

Lannie enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding and working on motorcycles. His greatest love was his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Karen, his children Rebecca (Weldon) Huff of Belton, Mo, Betsy (Joe) Bliven of Quincy, Il, George (Dani) Griggs of Liberty, Il, Teri (Nathan) Voss of Quincy, Il. Two step-children, Shelli Danner of Quincy, Il and Cami (Jeff) Mock of Quincy, Il. Grandchildren, Kristie Mock, Joshua (Erica) Mock, Justin (Meagan) Mainka of Victoria, Tx., Kruse (Amber) Allensworth, Shelby Allensworth, Courtney Bliven, Derek Griggs, Jordan Griggs-Voss, Holden Voss, Craig Huff and great-grandchildren Melody Shear, Gracelyn Shear, Konnor Allensworth, Jameson Mock, Lincoln Mock, Leo Mock, Brysen Brewer, Keagen Danner, Davina Benjamin and Brady Mock. One sister, Connie Rathburn of Quincy, Il and a sister-in-law Kathleen Hayes of Tuson, AZ, and seveal nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law, Emma “Larry” Hayes, his father-in-law Richard “Mickey” Hayes, two sisters Joan (Jim) Hess, Nena (Lyle) Bradley, two brothers Lloyd Griggs and Frank (Barbara) Griggs, two grandsons Cooper Voss and David Mock and two brother-in-laws, Terrry L. Hayes and Thomas W. Hayes both of Quincy, Il.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Griggs-Voss, Derek Griggs, Justin Mainka, Brian Baucom, Travis Graff, Nathan Voss, Jeff Mock and Joe Bliven.

A Celebration of Lannie’s will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 1:30 p.m. in Calvary Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Never got to spend much time with you and Lannie while you lived in Liberty, but enjoyed the time, love you !!!

    I remember uncle Lannie, as a young girl, hoping he would take us for a ride on his motorcycle, he was the fun uncle every kid should have. I will miss him. I am so sorry for your loss.
