I went to school with Kyle and was a fellow Cadet. Kyle was an incredible person who would do anything for anyone. I remember him in such incredible health. He was extremely involved in Rangers, ROTC, College clubs, but was extremely devoted to his studies and his friends. He loved everyone. I have thought of Kyle often in the last months. Kyle is in heaven with his grandfathers and is no longer struggling. He will be a part of our lives always.

I never met him but I know what a courageous battle he fought for the past year or so and how deeply his struggle affected all of your lives. You were all in my thoughts and prayers daily. I will be unable to come to visitation or the funeral because of my own health issues but please know that I will be there in spirit. My condolenses and heartfelt prayers go out to the Russel family in this time of bereavement. Kyle was an inspirtion as well as a leader for the ROTC program at Western Illinois University. He was always quick to crack a joke, lend a hand, and be a friend to us all. We all greatly mourn the loss of Kyle, specially of those who looked up to him. There was not a better cadet or a finer man than Kyle. His death is a loss not only to you, the ARMY, and the world. The world is a lesser place without him. I know that Kyle is in the hands of GOD now, and will continue to look out for his family and friends from above.

    Sadly,
    Joseph Laz

I was truly saddened by the passing of Kyle David Russell. He was an enthusiastic, polite, and positive young man. Kyle was passionate about completing his law enforcement degree even with the enormous obstacles confronting him. I know he was looking forward to experiencing his final LEJA major requirement, internship, and I am disheartened that he was not able to accomplish that goal. Kyle will be missed as he has left a lasting impression on many individuals. I wish to extend my condolences to his entire family and all who had the pleasure of knowing Kyle.
