Kenneth “Speedy” Fielding

Kenneth “Speedy” Fielding, age 92, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 1113 Madonna, died on Friday, February 20, 2015 in the Home. He was born on May 7, 1922 in Quincy, the son of Clarence and Ethel Fielding. He married Mary Celeste Taylor on April 20, 1948 in Palmyra, MO. She preceded him in death on January 25, 1999. Mr. Fielding was a Lockmaster for the US Army Corps of Engineers, retiring from Lock & Dam #21. He was of the Christian Faith. Speedy loved golf and Wagon Wheel Square Dancing.

Mr. Fielding served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor Attack, being aboard the USS Selfridge on Sunday morning, December 7, 1941.

He is survived by:
ONE SISTER: Elizabeth Wellborn of Canton, OR
Nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his wife, and 3 brothers: Melvin, Francis and Jim Fielding.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery with military rites conducted at the cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to the Great River Honor Flight.

    We were next door neighbers to Ken and his wife. We enjoyed talking to Ken about his service in the Navy and the Corp of Engineers. He was a very good neighbor.
