Kathleen S. Schmitt, age 89, of the Bickford Cottages,died on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 1:15 AM in Bickford. She was born on April 18, 1924 in Quincy, IL the daughter of William Henry and Bertha Elizabeth (Bergman) Sanders. Kathleen was a 1942 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame. She married George Schmitt on May 21, 1947 in St. Mary Catholic Church. He preceded her in death. Throughout her career Mrs. Schmitt worked at Moorman Manufacturing, WT Grant Co., was a bookkeeper for Merchants Wholesale and later worked for Bergner’s Department Store. Kathleen was a member of the Church of St. Peter where she was active in the Social Concerns Committee. She was also a member of the Women’s City Club, the Ladies of Charity, the Blessing Hospital Auxiliary and the Western Catholic Union.

She is survived by:
TWO CHILDREN: Julie Markert and her husband Mike of Quincy and Michael Schmitt and his wife Terri of Chicago, IL
GRANDCHILDREN: Kristi Schmitt, Joshua Schmitt and his wife Lacy; Christopher Schmitt, Lacey Schmitt, Bri Emery, Ryan Kistner and his wife Jeri and Patrick Kistner and his wife Maggie.
GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Miller Schmitt, Camille Kistner and Emmy Kistner.
ONE BROTHER: William Sanders, II and his wife Adeline
ONE SISTER: Joan McGee
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, two sons: Timothy Schmitt and George Stephen ‘Steve’ Schmitt and a sister Venita Schneidman.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 12:30 in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 1:00 in the Church of St. Peter by Msgr. Leo Enlow. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 4:30 until 7:30 at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Ladies of Charity or to the Social Concerns Committee of the Church of St. Peter.
