Kathleen M. Neuser

Kathleen M. Neuser, age 63, of Quincy, died on Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Adams Pointe of Quincy. She was born on October 4, 1957 in Quincy, the youngest child of Joseph E. and Anita (Fischer) Lavery. Kathleen married William Kent Neuser on June 30, 1979 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on June 29, 2014.

Kathy was a 1975 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame and 1986 graduate of Quincy College. She was instrumental in establishing the Madonna House and worked there many years utilizing her social work and counseling skills to help many. This role and mission at Madonna House was very important to her.

A member of St. Rose of Lima and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic churches, her faith was central to her life. Kathy was devoted to praying the Rosary. She treasured her life on the farm with Bill and the kids, her family and being a grandma. She especially loved her horses but had a soft-spot for all animals.

Kathy participated in TEC and Cursillo. She had a big heart that always went out to those in need. She was also involved in the prison ministry, Residents Encounter Christ.

Kathy is survived by her children: Luke Neuser, of Burlington, IA, Gina (Patrick) Holt, of St. Louis, MO, Laura (Joseph) Zanger, of Quincy and Jesse Neuser, of Pullman, WA.
Grandchildren: Eva Marie Hope, Abram Joseph, Elizabeth Grace, Paul Michael, Mary Jane and Henry Thomas Zanger, Gabriel Austin and Renli Inez Neuser.
Her siblings: Edward G. Lavery and his wife Mary E.; Michael J. Lavery and his wife Karen S.; Richard J. Lavery and his wife Mary J.; Mary A. Neuser; and Dennis P. Lavery.

Numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other relatives also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Thomas “TJ” Lavery, a brother-in-law, Robert P. Neuser, her mother in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Inez Neuser.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 12:15 p.m. in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday morning at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. with Rosary beginning at 11:30 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Poor Clares at: Monastery of Saint Clare of the Immaculate Conception, 200 Marycrest Drive, Saint Louis, MO 63129-4813 or to Birthright of Quincy, located at: 428 North 6th Street, Suite 101, Quincy, IL 62301.

    I had the privilege of meeting Kathy through her sister Mary Neuser. I knew her to be a Godly woman. She was caring, intelligent, and a beautiful lady. I’m so sorry for your loss. Hugs and prayers for all of her family!

    My husband and I were foster parents with Kathy and Bill. She was always willing to help when we needed respite care. So sorry to the entire family.
