Kathleen Altgilbers

Kathleen Teresa Altgilbers, age 91, of Quincy, died on Friday, November 17, 2017 in Sunset Home. She was born on October 27, 1926 in Scotland to James Joseph and Catherine (Cunningham) Whyte. She was raised in Ireland. She first married Harold “Spud” Lewis in Ireland in 1945. They came to Ripley, IL in 1947. She later married Leo Redmond in 1963 and moved to Quincy in 1978. He preceded her in death. She then later married Don Altgilbers. He survives.

While living in Ireland, Kathleen worked in her mother’s store as a cashier. From 1959 to 1963, she worked for the Brown Co. School System in the cafeteria. She later retired from the Illinois Veterans Home. Kathleen was very active in the Democratic Party. Kathleen was a member of the AFSCME where she served on the Executive Board and was inducted in the AFSCME Hall of Fame. She was also a member of numerous other organizations, including the Eagles, the Democratic Women’s Club, the Retirement 822 Club, and the People’s Club.

CHILDREN: Tom Lewis of Tampa, FL and Terry Lewis of Clayton, IL
STEP-CHILDREN: Theresa Medlin; Donald Altgilbers, Ronald (Kitty) Altgilbers; Mark Altgilbers; Kathryn (Bob) Breneman; Richard (Agnes) Redmond; Mary (Ray) Joseph; Patty Musholt; Helen (Donald) Schuman; Tom Redmond and Jim (Lori) Redmond.
GRANDCHILDREN: Devin Lewis, Sean Lewis, Hutton Lewis; Clay Lewis, Cory Lewis and Monica (Jamie) Ivers.
GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Auston, Asher, Brandon, Luke, Haven and Scarlet.
SIBLINGS: William Whyte, Rosaleen Murphy and Ambrose Whyte.
A host of numerous step-grandchildren, Step-great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
In addition to her husband Leo, Kathleen was also preceded in death by a step-son Raymond Redmond, and siblings: Joseph Whyte, Maureen Michaelides, Seamus Whyte, Charlie Whyte, Richard Whyte, Thomas Whyte and Josephine Harper.
Funeral services will be held on FRIDAY, November 24, 2017 at 10:30 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Sterling Catholic Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Friday. Visitation will be held on WEDNESDAY, November 22, 2017 from 4:00 until 6:00 PM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sunset Home or to St. Francis Catholic Church.

    Don, We are so sorry to hear of Kathleen’s passing. She was a wonderful lady. We loved visiting with the two of you. She will be greatly missed. You are in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless
