Katherine “Katie” Rose Hugenberg, age 22, of 1846 North 1050th Ave. Liberty, was taken by the Angels on Saturday, July 20th at 8:57 p.m. in Children’s Hospital, St. Louis, MO after an unexpected critical illness. On the 4th of July Katie went to sleep never to wake again.
Katie was born April 12, 1991 in St. Mary Hospital, Quincy, IL the daughter of Dan and Rose Ann (Grawe) Hugenberg and the sister of Ben Hugenberg. The Good Lord saw fitting to entrust Katie’s time here on earth to family willing to care and accept her, especially her mother, in whom he placed special abilities, who was Katie’s guardian angel here on earth.

Katie was a beautiful bright girl who brought joy and inspiration. Through all of her difficulties she kept a smile on her face which was contagious to everyone.

Katie attended Madison, Adams and Baldwin schools in Quincy. For the last 10 years she attended Liberty School where she completed her education this past spring. Katie had a passion for school and learning. She was always excited to go to school and truly enjoyed being there. She was a member of the F.F.A., the Art Club, and FCCLA. Some of the highlights for Katie were attending Prom, the Senior Trip to Chicago, and cheering with the cheerleaders at Liberty High School. Katie thoroughly loved Liberty Eagle Basketball games!

Katie loved all of the aspects of farm life and truly was a farmer’s daughter. She treasured riding with her dad and brother anytime she could in the combine, tractor, or semi-truck. Katie shared a special passion for gardening with her mother. She liked being outdoors but hated to get dirty and loved things that sparkled. She was excited about her sunflower garden, which she started herself. She was looking forward to entering her sunflowers in the Adams County Fair this week. She was always so excited and very proud to see her name displayed when she won.
Katie greatly enjoyed attending St. Josephs Ice Cream Social, St. Anthony’s Parish Picnic, and Camp Callahan.

Katie loved being with family and friends. She treasured the holidays and helped to make them special for everyone else. Katie will be greatly missed by her immediate family and dearly missed by all who knew her.

Rita Frericks; Joe Grawe and his wife Gail all of Liberty; Roger Grawe and his wife Pat of Eau Claire, WI; and Mary Howald of Center, MO.
Paternal aunts and uncles: Debbie O’Malley and her husband Joe of Omaha, NE, Jim, Ron and Carl Hugenberg, of Quincy, IL, John Hugenberg and his wife Lisa of Springfield, MO, Roger Hugenberg and his wife Kim of Canton, MO, Dennis Hugenberg of Payson, IL and Rich Hugenberg and his fiancee Kara Scott of Clayton, IL;
Numerous cousins also survive, along with her beloved dog, Bear.

Katie was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Eugene “Gene” Grawe and paternal grandfather Robert J. “Bob” Hugenberg, an Uncle, Paul Frericks, and an Aunt, Lynda Grawe
The family would like to thank Blessing Hospital, Quincy Family Practice and St. Louis Children’s Hospital for the exceptional care given Katie through the years. Also a special thanks is offered to her wonderful teachers, aides and caregivers.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home with a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Jeff Stone and the Rev. Louis Schlangen will be celebrants.
Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
