Karen Sue Holtschlag

Karen Sue Holtschlag, age 59, of Quincy, died on January 16, 2023 in St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL. She was born on December 2, 1963 in Quincy, IL. Karen was a graduate of Quincy Notre Dame and the Gem City Business College. She married Dr. Mark Holtschlag on November 8, 1986 in St. Anthony Catholic Church in Quincy. He survives.

Karen had worked at Hardees for many years. She then ran a daycare out of her home. From 2000 to the present, she was the office manager of Natural Health in Quincy.

Karen was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

Karen enjoyed gardening, volleyball, anything related to flowers and canning. She loved being with her friends and family and spoiling the grandkids. She was a big supporter of her boys during football games at the Y, QND, Western and the Spartans.

HER PARENTS: August ‘Dick’ and Dolores ‘Dee’ Wiewel of Quincy
HER MOTHER-IN-LAW: Mary Jo Holtschlag of Quincy.
HER CHILDREN: August ‘AJ’ Holtschlag and his wife Melissa, Dr. James ‘Jimmy’ Holtschlag and his wife Dr. Morgan Ramos-Holtschlag; Dr. Clarence ‘Chip’ Holtschlag and Edward ‘Eddy’ Holtschlag.
GRANDCHILDREN: Aiden and Liam Holtschlag.
SIBLINGS: Cindy Paul and her significant other Dave Ferrill; Donna Wegs and her significant other Jeff Morris; Greg Wiewel and his wife Denise; Cheryl Haxel and her husband Phil; and Janice Guthrie and her husband Dave.
BROTHERS-IN-LAW AND SISTERS-IN-LAW: Joe Holtschlag and his wife Penny; Sue Woytassek, Tom Holtschlag with his significant other Beth Bower; and Tony Holtschlag and his wife Lisa.
Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives also survive.

Karen was preceded in death by a brother-in-law: Bruce Paul; a sister-in-law: Joan Holtschlag, her father-in-law: Robert Holtschlag, a nephew Derrin Wegs, and a niece Kelli Ann Paul.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 9:30 AM at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home and at 10:00 AM in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Interment in St. Boniface Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family to help with medical expenses, to Quincy Notre Dame or to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

    Mark and family, we are so very sorry for your huge loss! Karen always had a smile on her face! I am going to be out of the country next week, so I won’t make it to the services.. However, I am going to be thinking of you and praying for all of you!

    Please know we all loved Karen at the parish, a kind soul and a sweet person to know. We too grieve with you.
    I’ll miss that smile every 8am.mass for sure as she always greeted me and her late cousin Jerry too for years.

    “Toot” and I had gone to Dr. Mark for many years and Karen was always so kind and helpful. I have followed her updates on fb and was so sad to see this happen to her. I have prayed the rosary for her and now will continue to do so for her family. We are so sorry for your loss. Rest in peace, Karen.

    I first met Karen at St. Rose of Lima Parish, and really got to know her as a warm, kind and caring person at Natural Health, in Quincy, IL.
