Karen S. Carroll
Karen S. Carroll age 59, of Quincy died on Saturday, February 27, 2021 in her home with her family by her side. She was born September 17, 1961 in Quincy, a daughter of Eugene D. and Patricia A. (Hellhake) Bartelt. She married Gordon B. Forbes on January 8, 2010 and he survives. She was formerly married to Tim Carroll.
Karen attended St. Mary’s grade school, Quincy Notre Dame, and graduated from Quincy Senior High in 1979. She attended John Wood Community College for her LPN in 1980, later attending Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing earning her RN in 1984. She received her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Culver Stockton/Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing in 1995. Karen went on to receive her Masters of Science from SIUE in 2002. She practiced as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
Karen dedicated her life to being a caretaker. She took pride in helping and caring for her loved ones. She was a long-time employee of Blessing Hospital and Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing. Her most cherished role was teaching new nurses how to care for their patients.
She was a gift giver, Karen loved to give handmade knitted dish cloths and coordinating towels for every holiday and special occasion. She also enjoyed knitting baby blankets for expecting friends and family members. Karen loved to spoil her grandchildren. In her spare time, Karen would always stay busy. She enjoyed running and exercise, participating in the Bridge the Gap half marathon and the Turkey Run with her family. She cherished going on long walks with her dear sister-in-law and shopping and eating nachos with her best friend. Karen was a seasoned gardener and adored plants and caring for the family vegetable garden.
Karen and Gordon loved their yearly trip to the Caribbean. Her favorite part was walking on the beach and listening to the ocean. She appreciated listening to music, most especially The Beatles and hard rock.
Karen is survived by her mother, Patricia (Donald) Huechteman, husband, Gordon Forbes, children, Jamie (Chris) Robnett, Patrick (Fraya) Carroll, and Andria (Jonathan) Silver, and beloved grandchildren, Mia, Audrey, and Curtis Robnett and Elenor Silver, her brother Kenny Bartelt, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and cats Boots and Cow survive. Karen also leaves behind many friends and co-workers that she enjoyed time with.
She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.
The family extends their gratitude to Blessing Hospital Oncology, Radiology, Palliative Care, and Hospice Care for all of their loving, tender care and support that they provided to Karen and her family during this time.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Peter officiated by Monsignor Leo Enlow. Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh Funeral Home.For the safety of those attending services, a face mask is required. I had the privilege of serving on the BRCN faculty with Karen and a recipient of her hand crafted dish rags!! I celebrate her giving life (yet too short) on earth and sending prayers and love to her family. My deepest sympathy.

So sorry for your loss. Karen was a great nurse and friend. We worked together in surgery at BH for several years. Always enjoyed our chance meetings and catching up on her family. She will be missed.

My heart is broken for Karen’s family. I worked in Critical Care with Karen for many year and the alongside her on different councils at work. She was an excellent nurse and cared deeply for her patients and their families. She certainly will be missed! Fly high my friend.
