Justina C. Peter

Justina C. Peter, age 103, of the Sunset Home, formerly of 301 North 8th and 1307 College died on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in the Sunset Home. She was born on December 24, 1909 in Melrose Twp, Adams County, IL the daughter of Joseph & Sophia (Huber) Ehrhardt. She married Lawrence G. Peter on August 8, 1929 in St. Anthony Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on September 30, 1984.

Justina was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church where she was a member of the Ladies of St. Francis. Justina had been chosen as a Woman of the Year at St. Francis. She was also a member of the Secular Franciscans. Justina was one of the few who could be both a Cubs fan and a Cardinal fan. She lived to be 103 and 1/2. She was the pie maker and crafter, long before it was cool. She made clothes, quilts, rugs and even made toys for her family. Fruits and vegetables were always on the top of her list and she canned the produce of her garden. She’d also make a root beer float if given the chance. She might also drink your beer to make sure you wouldn’t get tipsy. In her 80’s, Justina rode a horse and a motorcycle, jumped on a trampoline and countless other things. The world changed over and over in her lifetime. Though sorry to lose her, we are happy that she is reunited with her husband, family and friends that have passed before her.

She is survived by:
3 CHILDREN: Clarence Peter and his wife Nancy of Dothan, AL; Barbara Grawe of Kansas City, MO; and Carol Darnell and her husband Gary of Quincy.
2 DAUGHTERS-IN-LAW: Mary Peter of Fairfield, CA and Marlene Peter of Dothan, AL.

34 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, 16 GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
In addition to her husband, Justina was also preceded in death by 3 children: Gerald, Edgar, and Delbert Peter, 1 son-in-law: Dave Grawe, a grandchild: Penny Fuller, and all her siblings: Lawrence Ehrhardt, Henry Ehrhardt, Frieda Dietrich, Leonard Ehrhardt, Philip Ehrhardt, Agnes Bussen, Wilbur Ehrhardt, and Mary Dietrich.
