Julius G. Rupp
Julius G. Rupp, age 84, of 1501 N. 18th, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2011 in his home. He was born on November 8, 1926 in Quincy, the son of Frederick & Leona (Hutmacher) Rupp. Jul married Carolyn Altmix on May 28, 1949 in St. Francis Catholic Church in Quincy. She survives. On February 14, 1958 Jul and his brother-in-law Bill Kinney started Rupp-Kinney Masonry. They successfully completed such jobs as St. Peter Catholic Church, Quincy University North Campus, Motorola Buildings, Quincy Shopping Mall, Sunset Home & Sunset Apartments along with numerous other buildings in Quincy and the Tri-State area. Bill retired in December 1986 and Jul’s son, John become part owner, the business then becoming Rupp Masonry.
Jul enjoyed traveling, playing cards, family gatherings, investments, desserts, and his Church, St. Francis, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society.
Jul was a member of the Triple Oaks, Knights of Columbus, The Elks Lodge #100, the North Side and South Side Businessmen’s Association and Bricklayers Local #8.
In addition to his wife, Carolyn, Jul is also survived by:
THREE CHILDREN: Frederick Rupp and his wife Georgia of Quincy, Jeffrey Rupp and his wife Jeanne of California, and John Rupp and his wife Tammy also of Quincy.
TEN GRANDCHILDREN: Dr. Sarah Montgomery and her husband Dr. Zak, Alexander Rupp and his wife Dr. Irena, Jillian Rupp, Ted Rupp, Jennifer Beto and her husband David, Christine Rupp, Justin Rupp, Malinda St. John and her husband Jesse, Blake Rupp and Bryce Rupp.
FOUR GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Leona Rupp, Cole Beto, Ethan Beto, and Lily St. John.
ONE SISTER: Roberta Kinney Wismann and her husband Robert.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Jul was preceded in death by a son Thomas Jay Rupp, his parents, a brother Virgil and a sister Doloretta Langdon.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 9:00 Am until the time of the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Church, the Church of St. Peter, or to Quincy Notre Dame. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
