Judith M. Matthews

Judith M. Matthews, age 69, of Quincy, IL died on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at University Hospital in Iowa City, IA. She was born on October 14, 1952, in Quincy. Judy married Randy Matthews on May 27, 1983. He survives.
Judy completed 40 years of dedicated service at Blessing Hospital. She began her career as a nurse’s aide and after 25 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse, she received her Registered Nurse diploma from John Wood Community College in 1994. In 2003, she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing.
Her many achievements included, Recipient of 2007 YWCA Women of Achievement Award, Voted as Licensed Practical Nurse of the Year in 1999,Nominated for area-wide Nurse of the Year in 2002, Member of the JWCC Health Advisory Board, Served on the American Cancer Society Board, and Walter Hammond Day Care Board.
Judy loved anything related to her family, her friends and her church. Her many friends called her “outgoing, bubbly and uplifting”, noting she “shares her testimony, encouraging individuals to follow their dream and never give up”.
In addition to her husband, Judith is also survived by: HER PARENTS: Maurice and Onella Crider; HER CHILDREN: Bruce Bias and his wife Rachel of Lee’s Summit, MO; Tyfus Bias and his wife Melissa Lewis-Bias of Quincy; and Laranda Matthews of Quincy; and HER SIBLINGS: Maurice Crider, Jr., Carina Cartmill (Terry), and Tracy Blue (Marvin). Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Judith was preceded in death by a sister: Jani Mayfield.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. – 12 noon at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022 at 12:00 noon at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment in Greenmount Cemetery. The family requests all attending the visitation and the funeral to wear a mask due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Donations can be made to Blessing-Reiman College of Nursing & Health Sciences. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In order to protect everyone’s health and safety from COVID-19, the family has elected not to have a repast.
