Juanita D. Gurley, age 88, of the North Adams Home, formerly of 723 East Brennan Drive, Quincy, died on Thursday, October 15, 2015 in the Home. She was born on March 27, 1927 in Berlin, Maryland, the daughter of William Parlot & Laura (Kisamore)Ketterman. She married Richard “Zeke” Gurley on December 2, 1944. He preceded her in death.

Family was Juanita’s top priority. She was a stand-up, first-class lady and it doesn’t come any better than that. Her charming personality was “electric” and she had you from “hello.” She was also a jokester who would have you in tears laughing. She was known for her homemade country cooking and loved to cook for family and friends. Juanita’s passion was to go to antique car shows with her husband, “Zeke” and show off their prize possession, a 1927 Diana. Their car won first place almost every time it was shown. She was a member of the Mississippi Valley Historic Antique Car Club. Juanita loved to play cards and shuffleboard. She even had a shuffleboard table in her basement and would have family and friends to come over to play. Juanita looked forward to visiting her 9 siblings each year in Ocean City, Maryland. She was deeply loved by all.

Juanita was a member of the First Union Congregational Church in Quincy.

She is survived by:
A DAUGHTER: Janice Wiewel of Quincy
THREE GRANDCHILDREN: Richard Frese and his wife Tami; Paula Main and her husband Bub, and Sam Wiewel.
ONE GREAT-GRANDCHILD: Laken Frese.
Numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and all of her siblings.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery of the Illinois Veterans Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning at the Duker & Haugh Funeral Home from 9:30 until the time of the services. Memorials may be made to the North Adams Home, the First Union Congregational Church or to the Alzheimers’ Association of Adams County.
