Joyce Ann Hoskins
Joyce Ann Hoskins, age 83, of Quincy died on Monday, March 21, 2022 in Blessing Hospital. Joyce was born in Kahoka, MO on October 6, 1938, the only child of Leo and Vineta (Ridgely) Rorick. She married Maynard J. “Jay” Hoskins on February 25, 1961 in Quincy’s Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. Jay preceded her in death on December 12, 2009.
Joyce was a loving wife of 48 years, a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandma and great grandma who dedicated her life to her family and being a homemaker. Joyce was a dear friend and neighbor, always thinking of others. She has many special nieces and nephews that she loved very much. She loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a graduate of Quincy Senior High School and attended college at Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, MO. She was a member of Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church. A founding member of Adams County Quilt Guild in 2007, she served as president until the present. She was active as a member and served as a board member of the Adams County Home and Community Extension. Joyce was a skilled quilter and made quilts and hundreds of personalized Christmas stockings for her family and friends.
Joyce was a member of several card groups, and playing cards was one of her favorite pastimes. She loved Christmastime, baking and making candy, making handmade ornaments, Christmas villages and many other beautiful Christmas decorations for her family. She hosted a Christmas cookie exchange over the holidays for years, and for 22 years joined her family and friends on a Christmas shopping trip to Lake of the Ozarks, St. Louis, or to Branson, MO. She welcomed friends and family to her home and dinner table, Joyce was a great cook and baker, which everyone enjoyed. She loved to entertain family and friends and made everything about a holiday special.
Over the years she liked to go camping, travel and listen to country music, especially those by singer George Strait.
Survivors include her two children, Mark Hoskins and his wife Cara of Golden, IL; Paula Hubbard and her husband Glenn of East Alton, IL.
Grandchildren, Jenna Crooks, her husband Brent of Quincy; Jordin Wiewel and her fiancé, Justin Zanger of Clayton, IL; Ridgely Hubbard, and his wife Taylor of Wood River, IL and Reagan Hubbard of East Alton, IL.
Great-Grandchildren: Rorick, Rowyn, and Ryken Crooks, Willow and Blaze Wiewel, Kyndall and Kolbie Hubbard. A brother-in-law Rod Hoskins of Quincy and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. in Duker & Haugh Funeral Home by Rev. Ron Cox. Interment will be in Shiloh Cemetery near Plainville, IL. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Duker & Haugh. Memorials are suggested to Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or the Donor’s Choice.
